The story takes place in the year 1450. The Hundred Years' War between England and France has been ongoing for over a century, and at the moment, both sides find themselves in a stalemate. In the area between England and France, there are numerous duchies, both large and small, which were originally established by the French kings. However, due to various reasons, their allegiances have become divided. Among these duchies, there are four particularly important ones, which both England and France have sought to win over. The Duchy of Orléans pledged its loyalty to France long ago, as did the Duchy of Burgundy. The Duchy of Normandy firmly supports England, while the Duchy of Brittany has, for now, maintained a position of neutrality. During this time, without a policing system in place, if a murder occurred within the duchy's castle, it would be directly investigated by an envoy from the French royal court. And it's within one of these castles in Brittany that our story unfolds today.
